Leather harnesses should last for years.   Use a good boot/shoe leather cleaner every 4 months to clean leather harness, keep it supple and protect it from weather.    Put on generously with a soft cloth, let dry and polish gently.  

If harness gets dunked or soaked, dry away from direct heat, clean with good leather cleaner and the harness should be good to go again.
